“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” -Walter Winchell
We all have someone come to mind when we here that quote. Whether it’s your cousin, brother, sister, someone you go to high school with something else.
The question we will address here is “how can I be a good friend?”
The intelligent people at psychology today have theorized that there are 13 characteristics of a good friend.
They start with “I am” and are meant to be asked by you about yourself.
How much do you agree with each statement?
I (am)…
Trustworthy
Honest with others
Generally very dependable
Loyal to the people I care about
Easily able to trust others
Experience and express empathy for others
Able to be non-judgmental
A good listener
Supportive of others in their good times
Supportive of others in their bad times
Self-confident
Usually able to see the humor in life
Fun to be around
How well do you think you did?
Good? Bad? Somewhere in between?
It's good to ask yourself these questions on occasion to see of you've made any progress.
Being all of these things can be difficult, but being able to build a true bond can be a life altering experience.
