Advocacy
HAVEN advocates are available to work with survivors (adults and children) and their families in order to achieve their goals. We are familiar with many of the systems that survivors must navigate and we are here to help them along their journey.
Empowerment and Options Counseling
We use an empowerment-based advocacy model to work with each survivor on an individualized basis to identify and assess their needs. Our advocates provide options counseling to each survivor on a case-by-case basis to help them achieve their goals.
Medical Accompaniment
HAVEN has a close relationship with the Emergency Department at UPMC Wellsboro. Advocates are available to respond in-person or telephonically to the ER for victims and survivors who request support related to domestic violence or sexual assault.
Information and Referrals
Knowledge is power, and no two situations are alike. Our advocates are here to help survivors access resources that could be helpful to them. We have connections with local mental health/substance abuse services, food security resources and more.
Safety Planning
HAVEN strives to work with survivors on their terms. Advocates are here to work with survivors during every stage of their healing journey - this includes survivors who aren't ready to leave, yet. We can help identify signs of abuse, discuss options/resources, lend a listening ear, and help create safety plans with survivors who wish to meet with an advocate. HAVEN's services are empowerment based and voluntary. We will provide services to support survivors when they wish to receive our services.
Legal Services
HAVEN has an attorney on staff who is available to provide legal advice about issues around domestic violence or sexual assault. All referrals to the attorney, require a meeting with an advocate first. We do not handle CYS, custody, or divorce cases.
Protection From Abuse (PFA) Assistance
We are able to provide guidance and assistance in filing a Protection From Abuse Order for survivors who qualify.
Court Accompaniment and Advocacy
Advocates are available to accompany survivors to the police station or court hearings in order to provide support for those navigating the system.
Emergency Housing
HAVEN offers safe, temporary, emergency housing options for victims of domestic or sexual violence. HAVEN's shelter service is not transitional housing. HAVEN can also assist with rapid rehousing and public housing referrals, along with other relocation connections and services.
Programming and Outreach
HAVEN provides prevention education programs to schools and universities, as well as to civic, social, and religious groups. Program topics include (but are not limited to) Healthy Relationships, Bystander Bullying Awareness, Consent Trainings, and the Effects of Violence on Children.
HAVEN is always looking to create new partnerships and meaningful relationships with our community members and organizations. Whether you want us to join in a community-wide event or interested in raising awareness - we want to connect with you! Feel free to contact us by business phone at 1-570-724-3549 or email jennifer@havenoftiogacounty.org if you'd like to join our mission of Helping Abuse and Violence End Now.
