Many victims of domestic and sexual violence also experience stalking. Stalking is a crime and should be taken very seriously. Stalking often begins as minor incidents such as repeated phone calls but can escalate into something very dangerous. Below is a list behaviors a stalker may exhibit and/or escalate to.

  • Information gathering
  • Repeated non-threatening mail, email, beeper, and phone calls
  • Persistent physical approaches and/or request for dates
  • Notes and flowers left on your car or sent to you
  • Following and coincidentally showing up wherever the victim goes
  • Sitting outside your home or place of employment
  • Waiting next to your car in the parking lot
  • False reports to authorities, spreading rumors
  • Vandalism or destruction of property
  • Threatening mail, email, notes, or phone calls
  • Leaving evidence that the car has been broken into
  • Breaking into the victim's home when he or she is not there
  • Leaving dead animals in home, yard, or car
  • Physically attacking the victim
  • Rape or attempted rape
  • Murder or attempted murder
  • If you feel you may be the victim of a stalker you should do some safety planning.  Keep a journal of dates and events that things happen.  Visit the safety planning page and call HAVEN for more assistance.
