What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic Violence; also called spouse abuse, family violence, wife beating, and battering; is the use of abusive and violent behavior among people who are married, living together, or have an ongoing or a prior intimate relationship. Domestic Violence also includes members of the same family, such as parent-child and sibling relationships.

Domestic Violence can involve pushing, punching, slapping, stabbing, attempted strangulation, forcing sexual activity or using the threat of violence to control another's Behavior.

Domestic Violence is a CRIME.

Domestic Violence does not discriminate. It occurs among all ethnicities, social classes, income levels, ages, religions and sexual orientations.

Domestic Violence is rarely an isolated occurrence. It usually increases in frequency and severity over time.
